2009/10/14

On October 14, 2009, the eighth prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held at the Great Hall of the People. The meeting issued the Joint Communiqué of Meeting of Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) of SCO Member States.

When meeting the press together with prime ministers of other SCO member states after the prime ministers' meeting, Wen said the meeting issued a joint communiqué, reiterating that the SCO would exert great efforts to carry out exchange and cooperation in economy and trade, energy resources, agriculture, transportation, communications, quality control, culture, health and environment protection. He also stressed that further cooperation would sharpen the competitive edge of member states and enhance the capability in preventing risks.

Wen said this meeting was held against the backdrop that the world economy is at the stage of slow recovery and the SCO member states are making united efforts to enhance cooperation for common development. It shows the strong aspiration of all countries in the region to achieve long-term stability and sustainable development through deepened cooperation. Wen said he and his colleagues held talks with rich content in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. They reviewed the progress SCO had made in economic and cultural cooperation over the past year. They exchanged views on implementing the Treaty on Long-term Good-neighborly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation of the SCO member states and the Yekaterinburg summit consensus. They also exchanged in-depth views on deepening practical cooperation in various areas and reached broad consensus at the meeting, which was a great success.

Wen stressed faith moves mountains. Confidence, determination and perseverance are the source for member states to shake off crisis, overcome difficulty and move forward. So long as all member states join hands and deepen cooperation with perseverance, they will be able to create a bright future of lasting peace and common prosperity for the region.
