2011/12/23

On December 23, 2011 local time, visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with Somsak Kiatsuranont, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand.

Xi said that China and Thailand are close friendly neighbors and the bilateral relations enjoy a profound foundation. Since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1975, China and Thailand have insisted on mutual respect, mutual trust, equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation and been committed to developing exchanges and cooperation in various fields no matter how the international situation fluctuates. With the support and guidance of the leaders of both countries and through the joint efforts of the two peoples, the traditional friendship between China and Thailand has been carried forward and strengthened and the bilateral cooperation is highly productive. China always views Thailand as a close friend and a trustworthy partner. It is an established policy of Chinese diplomacy to actively develop friendship with Thailand. We are willing to work with Thailand to step up communication and coordination, learn from each other, promote the in-depth development of China-Thailand strategic cooperative relations and make greater contributions to the welfare of the Chinese and Thai people and the stability and prosperity in the region.

Xi noted that the contacts of legislatures constitute the main part of bilateral relations. The relationship between the legislatures of China and Thailand in recent years has developed three distinctive traits of close contacts, sound cooperation and rich connotation. China attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the Thai National Assembly and hopes the two sides work together to consolidate the basis of China-Thailand friendship. China is also willing to reinforce coordination and collaboration with Thailand in regional cooperation and jointly safeguard peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Somsak said that the Thai National Assembly attaches great importance to and looks forward to Xi's visit. Thailand and China are as close as family members and Xi's visit is just as the visit paid by relatives. He noted that Thailand pays high attention to developing good-neighborly friendship with China and exchanges and cooperation with the National People's Congress of China. As the situation in Asia and the world at large is in constant change, Thailand expects to further enhance cooperation with China, expand the exchanges between the legislatures, strengthen coordination and collaboration on regional and international issues and promote the development of Thailand-China strategic cooperative relations.
