On October 14, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, at the invitation of EU Ambassador to China Markus Ederer, attended the luncheon with Ambassadors of EU and 27 EU member states to China. He answered questions of the foreign diplomats on China-EU relations, the evolution of international situation, the G20 Cannes Summit and other regional and international issues.
Yang stressed that the current international situation is undergoing profound changes and countries are getting more interdependent. The international community should continue to cooperate for mutually beneficial and common development. As important trade partners, China and EU share wide interests on many critical regional and international issues, such as the G20 and climate change and enjoy promising prospects of cooperation. The two sides will hold the 14th summit soon and China hopes the upcoming event will send a positive message of China-EU cooperation to the Chinese and European people and the entire international community.
The EU side stressed that it attaches importance to China’s position and role and has benefited a lot from the wide and deep cooperation with China. It expects to work closely with China to make the 14th summit a success and push forward the development of bilateral relations.
