On April 14, 2010, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun and Tekeda Alemu, visiting Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, held political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries.

Zhai made positive comments on China-Ethiopia relations and thanked for Ethiopia’s long-term adherence to the one-China policy and precious support to China on major issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet. Zhai said that this year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Ethiopia. China is ready to celebrate this event together with Ethiopia and take this opportunity to push forward bilateral ties.

Tekeda said Ethiopia attaches great importance to developing cooperation with China in all areas and deems Ethiopia-China relations as special strategic ties. Ethiopia is satisfied with sustained, rapid development of bilateral ties in recent years and will continue to work with China to expand bilateral friendly cooperation.

Both sides also exchanged views on issues including the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the reform of the UN Security Council and climate change.
