On March 10-13, the 111th session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was opened in the Hague, the Netherlands. The Permanent Representative of China to the OPCW, Ambassador SHEN Bo led a delegation to attend the meeting.

The Chinese delegation actively promoted President Xi Jinping’s major initiatives, such as the Global Governance Initiative, and China’s achievements in compliance. China also expressed its firm stance on the issue of the chemical weapons abandoned by Japan in China (JACWs) and emphasized that the Japanese Prime Minister’s recent blatant and erroneous remarks on Taiwan trampled on China's red line of sovereignty and challenged the post-World War II international order, which China firmly opposes. The international community should be highly vigilant and resolutely resist reckless moves of Japanese neo-militarism. JACWs mark one of the gravest crimes that Japanese militarists committed during the war of aggression against China. The early and thorough destruction of JACWs is an inescapable historical, political, and legal responsibility of Japan. It is urged that Japan face up to its historical culpability and international legal obligations, expedite the destruction of JACWs, and restore a clean environment for the world and the Chinese people as soon as possible. China's just position has received understanding and support from all parties present.

The Chinese delegation elaborated on its position on the current situation in the Middle East, chemical weapons hotspots issues, and international cooperation in related fields.
