Chinese President Hu Jintao meets with visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin
in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Beijing

On the afternoon of October 14, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Beijing. Hu spoke highly of the new progress made in China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership as well as major outcome of the 14th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers.

Hu said this year was significant in the history of China-Russia relations as both countries celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. The two countries have maintained close contact between their leaders, rapidly advanced pragmatic cooperation and pushed humanities exchanges to one new level after another. He underscored the firm mutual support both countries offered to each other on major issues concerning their respective core interest and their close coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs.

Hu said the China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership had brought substantive benefits to both peoples and greatly contributed to the world peace, stability and prosperity. China attaches great importance to ties with Russia and always takes the relationship with Russia as one of its diplomatic priorities. "China would like to work with Russia to seize opportunities, inherit the past and forge ahead into the future and further enhance political trust, strategic coordination and pragmatic cooperation," Hu said. The Chinese president particularly called on both countries to boost cooperation in energy, high-tech and culture so as to push their strategic partnership of coordination to a higher level.

Putin said this year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China, adding that he was very glad to have the opportunity to celebrate this occasion together with Chinese people. He said his China visit was very successful, marking "an important step forward" in bilateral cooperation. He said close exchanges between leaders of both nations contributed a lot to bilateral relations, which witnessed new progress in trade, energy and culture. An outline of regional cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East Area and Eastern Siberia is being implemented. Putin said the "Year of Russian Language" went on well in China and looked forward to the "Year of Chinese language" in Russia next year. He said he was satisfied with the progress made in bilateral ties and would like to advance the strategic cooperative partnership.

State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the meeting.
