On October 15, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Mongolian counterpart Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message, Hu said the past 60 years have witnessed the deepening of China-Mongolia relations. Hu said the treaty on friendly and cooperative relations signed in 1994 has laid a more solid political and legal foundation for bilateral ties. Their bilateral relationship entered a new phase of development in 2003, with the establishment of the China-Mongolia good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust, he said. The Chinese government attaches importance to ties with Mongolia and it is the Chinese government's unswerving policy to develop the China-Mongolia good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. China is ready to work with Mongolia to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and at different levels with a more active attitude. Hu hoped that both sides will remain good neighbors, good friends and good partners forever.

Elbegdorj in his message said bilateral ties between the two countries have stood the test of history and have been moving forward continuously since the establishment of diplomatic ties 60 years ago. In particular during President Hu's visit to Mongolia in 2003, bilateral relationship was lifted to a good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust. Since then, their bilateral relationship has been developing steadily in various fields both in form and substance. The Mongolian side is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties and fully confident of the future of bilateral ties, he said.
