2011/09/16

On September 13, 2011, Ambassador Zhang Jun attended XEMC Darwind 5MW Offshore Wind Turbine Commissioning Ceremony and addressed the audience. Also presented were Mr. Chen Neng, CEO of XEMC, Mr. E.J. de Vires, Deputy Director General for Energy, Telecom and Competition and Director of Energy and Sustainability, Mr. Jaap Bond, Vice Governor of Province of Noord Holland and other representatives from business community.

Ambassador Zhang congratulated the commissioning of XEMC Darwind 5MW Offshore Wind Turbine, stressing that the commissioning of the wind turbine reflects the development of mutually beneficial partnership between China and the Netherlands. In recent years, with concerted efforts of the two countries, Sino-Dutch relations have maintained strong momentum with deepened mutual political trust, strengthened economic and trade cooperation, and expanded cooperation in all areas. Although affected by the financial crisis, the trade volume between China and the Netherlands has grown strongly, and the two-way investment has increased significantly. A win-win situation in bilateral cooperation has been created, which is conducive to both sides.

Ambassador Zhang said the commissioning of the wind turbine also demonstrates the correct direction of Sino-Dutch cooperation. As the world economic recovery is clouded by mounting uncertainties and grim challenges, the two nations need to strengthen cooperation and tap potential. China and the Netherlands enjoy strong economic complementarities and have the ability to transform the potential into specific cooperation projects, thus bringing more benefits to both sides. Meanwhile, the commissioning of the wind turbine illustrates both sides’ capability to promote bilateral cooperation to a higher level. With the implementation of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, China’s development is at a higher starting point and the win-win cooperation between China and the world will be at a higher level. China and the Netherlands should be forward looking and seek new breakthroughs of economic and trade cooperation, so as to promote the bilateral relations to a higher level.

Mr. Chen Neng, CEO of XEMC, Mr. E.J. de Vires, Deputy Director General for Energy, Telecom and Competition and Director of Energy and Sustainability, and Mr. Jaap Bond, Vice Governor of Province of Noord Holland also addressed the audience.

XEMC merged Dutch renewable energy technology firm, Darwind in 2009, and is the first Chinese company to build 5MW Offshore Wind Turbine, the world's largest single direct drive permanent magnet offshore wind turbine. After three years of research and testing, the wind turbine now enters into operational phase.
