2011/09/09

On September 9, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Hector Timerman in Beijing.

Yang said bilateral relations have witnessed rapid development since the establishment of the Sino-Argentine diplomatic relations 39 years ago, especially since the establishment of strategic partnership in 2004. Both sides have enjoyed close high-level exchanges, expanding economic and trade cooperation, increasingly dynamic cultural exchanges and close communication and cooperation in international and regional affairs. China appreciates Argentina's adherence to the one-China policy. China would like to take next year's 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity and work with Argentina to continue to deepen mutual trust and cooperation, enrich the connotation of bilateral strategic partnership and push bilateral relations to a higher level.

Timerman said that both countries, as important emerging market economies, share broad consensus on global issues, which provides a solid foundation for continuous development of bilateral ties. Timerman reaffirmed Argentina's adherence to the one-China policy, adding the country is willing to continuously upgrade the level of bilateral relations and expand cooperation in economic, trade, investment, technological, academic, social and other areas, to benefit the two peoples.

The two sides also discussed the international economic and financial situation and other issues of common concern.
