Mr. Chairman,

Through concerted efforts by all parties, the situation on the Korean Peninsular has been somewhat eased. The North and the South have started engaging with each other. However, the Six Party Talks is still at a standstill and the momentum for dialogue is still fragile. All parties need to make efforts in the same direction in order to resume dialogue.

On the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsular, it is the consistent and firm position of the Chinese Government To achieve denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, oppose nuclear proliferation and maintain peace and stability in Northeast Asia.

The international community hopes to see the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks process. An early resumption of the Six Party Talks and to put the relevant issues into the tracks of dialogue and consultation is the best option to ease the current situation and continue to move forward denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula. It is also conducive to the maintenance of peace and stability in Northeast Asia. We hope that the parties concerned, by keeping their eyes on the general and long-term interests, will keep calm and constraint, make full use of the current opportunity, display political wisdom and courage, actively engage in dialogue, and create conditions necessary for an early resumption of the Six Party Talks in order to find solutions acceptable to all parties through dialogue and consultations.

China is ready to join efforts with all parties concerned to continue to promote denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and play a constructive role in achieving and maintaining the long-terms peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
