2009/10/21

On October 20, 2009, French President Nicolas Sarkozy met with visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo at the Elysee Presidential Palace in Paris.

Sarkozy spoke highly of China's achievements in various fields and its important role in dealing with the major international and regional issues such as the financial crisis and climate change. France is willing to enhance exchanges and coordination with China in tackling all the challenges facing today's world, Sarkozy said. France will continue adhering to the one-China policy and actively participate in the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, he said.

The current good momentum in the development of China-France relations is worth cherishing, Dai said, adding that the two sides should cement mutual political trust, maintain high-level exchanges, and respect each other's core interests and major concern. Efforts should be made to strengthen their trade and economic exchange and deepen the connotation of their cooperation. Both sides should also improve their communication, coordination and cooperation in addressing the financial crisis, the reform of the international financial system and climate change to contribute to the sound and stable progress of their ties, he said.
