Recently，Dutch parliamentarians presented Motions on issues including the status of Taiwan, Taiwan participation in international organizations and Lithuanian-Taiwan relations, what’s your comment?

These motions seriously violate the one-China principle, grossly interfere in China’s internal affairs and deliberately support the Taiwan independence force, which we firmly oppose.

The merits of the Taiwan-related issue concerning Lithuania are plain and clear. Lithuania, in disregard of the Chinese government's solemn position, the broader interests of bilateral ties and the basic norms governing international relations, has allowed the establishment in Lithuania of the "Representative Office" bearing the name of Taiwan, the first country among those have diplomatic relations with China. This act has been hailed by the Taiwan authorities as an "important diplomatic breakthrough" and a "major diplomatic achievement of special significance"——what a far cry from the Lithuania government’s claim that "the opening of the Taiwanese Representative Office is based on economic and cultural interests and has no diplomatic status." This act openly creates the false impression of "one China, one Taiwan" in the world and renounces the political commitment made by Lithuania in the communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In response to acts undermining China's national sovereignty and security interests, the Chinese side took reasonable and lawful countermeasures to defend its own legitimate rights and interests, and international fairness and justice.

Some basic principles regarding the Taiwan question must be clarified:

First, there is only one China in the world, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The one-China principle is a universally-recognized norm of international relations and consensus of the international community. It is also the political foundation of bilateral relations between China and other countries including the Netherlands. The UN Resolution 2758 clearly stipulates that the government of PRC is the sole legal representation of China in UN. In the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations at Ambassadorial Level between China and the Netherlands in 1972, Chinese government reiterates its position that Taiwan is a province of PRC, and the Netherlands respects Chinese government’s position regarding Taiwan, and reiterates its acknowledgement that the government of the PRC is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.

Second, the participation of the Taiwan region in activities of international organizations, including the WHO, ICAO and INTERPOL, must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle. The above mentioned international organizations have all affirmed this fundamental principle in resolution or in other legal forms.In fact, on the premise of the one-China principle, the Central Government of China has made proper arrangement for the Taiwan region's participation in international cooperation in various areas. Taiwan region’s communication channels with relevant organizations are sufficient and unblocked. By asking for participation in these international organizations, Taiwan authority’s real purpose is to boost its so-called sovereignty status and expand its international space, whose plots are doomed to fail.

Third, the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair，it concerns China’s core interests and Chinese people’s national feelings and brooks no external interference. The resolve of the Chinese people to defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unswerving. We urge the Dutch parliamentarians to fully recognize the high sensitivity of the Taiwan question, immediately redress the wrong words and actions, earnestly abide by the one-China principle, and play a constructive role for the overall Sino-Dutch bilateral relations.
