Recently, a group of members of the House of Representatives of The Netherlands is visiting Taiwan. The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands has the following comments:

In disregard of China’s opposition, some members of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands went ahead to visit the Taiwan region of China. This is a flagrant violation of the one-China principle and a blatant interference in China’s internal affairs which sends a grossly wrong signal to the separatist forces for “Taiwan independence”. China is firmly opposed to this act.

There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The one-China principle is a basic norm in international relations and a universal consensus of the international community, which is also the political foundation of establishing and developing diplomatic relations between China and the Netherlands. Dutch Parliament, as a vital institution to exercise state power, has the obligation to refrain from having any official exchanges with China’s Taiwan region. China urges the Netherlands to abide by the one-China principle, stop any action that interferes in China’s internal affairs, take immediate and effective measures to correct the wrongdoing, and maintain the development of Sino-Dutch relations through practical actions.
